Doctor Shortage Petition

WHEREAS thousands of residents of Kingston and the Islands struggle to find a family doctor and must resort to multiple visits to Hospital Emergency Rooms and Urgent Care Clinics where there are long wait times and no continuity of care;

WHEREAS people of all ages remain on waitlists with families living without a family doctor for several years, forcing many to take time off work in order to travel long distances to other cities where there is availability;

WHEREAS physician retirements, relocations and reduced hours have led to an approximate doubling in the official waiting list since 2017, and the numbers are an underestimation because many people seeking doctors are under-reported;

WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to immediately prioritize the Ministry of Health to designate Kingston as a high-needs community.
